There is no place like the 17-year old landmark Round Up Nightclub in Davie Florida, where everyone feels at home, no matter age, race, religion, orientation, or background.  My love of country music grew into a passionate hobby of line dancing at the Round Up. I describe it as a gym where you can get a good workout, socialize and have an adult beverage if you wish.  In the words of Toby Keith, “I love this bar!”  More importantly, it’s where amazing friendships are formed… where Debbie and I met.

 

It was these incredible friends like Debbie, who supported me through my medical decisions, action plans and healing.  They stood alongside my family and I through my personal experience with winning over breast and ovarian cancer.

 

The Round Up was an important part of my recovery process.  After each surgery, I would ask my doctor, "When can I go line dancing again?”  The Round Up was the perfect venue to host a breast cancer awareness month event to celebrate life and fundraise for a great cause.  I approached Christopher Bruan, the owner of the Round Up Nightclub, with this notion.  The concept grew and evolved and now, after 3 successful “Rounds” and nearly $18,000 raised for the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation, here we are planning and preparing for Round Up in Pink 4.  Wow!!!

To continue giving back to the community, this year’s proceeds will benefit the 5-O Fighters, a non-profit organization.  Their mission is to provide home services and financial support to breast cancer patients and their families in the South Florida area.  Doing so, enables the patient to focus on their fight and recovery, by relieving some of their daily stresses.  The 5-O Fighters’ assistance includes help with monthly bills, co-payments for prescriptions and doctors’ appointments, groceries, clothing, housekeeping and transportation to and from cancer treatments, surgeries and doctors’ appointments.
